Playtime at the Park

Hot summer days kept us inside or at the pool quite a bit in July and August, so Matt and I decided to take Susannah to the park for some evening playtime before her bath. It was still pretty hot, but that didn't stop Suz. She loves the slide right now and her outgoing personality means she finds someone to befriend on each outing.

These days Susannah is also pretty obsessed with motorcycles. I am not sure what this means about her future, but she loves to see them on the road and squeals with delight if one pulls up next to us at a stoplight. So far, this is as close as she has come to actually riding on.

Back from the Beach

Road Trip to the Beach... Our girl was perfect in the car. She read her books, sang songs, and ate an entire package of mini vanilla wafers.

We loved spending a week at Isle of Palms! Susannah eventually loved the ocean and walked right in! She learned several new words including pelican, ocean, beach, almost, seagull, wave, bucket, etc and hasn't stopped talking about her aunts, uncles, grandparents and experiences. She can't quite figure out why the ocean isn't just outside our porch like it was at the beach house.
Finding seashells on the first day.

Hanging out with Uncle Steve J.

Exploring with Ibby.
Playing on the beach with Mia.

I love my Mia!

My final beach walk... it was hard to say good-bye!

Hot, Hot, Hot... and Horses!

We are doing our best to keep cool this summer. Just when it seems like it can't get any hotter, it does! Thankfully we have some awesome toys like the pink pony that plays "O, Susannah!" This birthday gift from Captain and Nana has been around the kitchen island too may times to count!
Suzy Roozy gets a little demanding with her books these days. With a very authoritative (and sometimes impatient tone), she says "BOOK!!!" This has happened so much lately that Matt started calling her the "Bookie Monster" after she woke us at 2, 3 and 4 am. We went in to check on her and upon seeing us, she sat up, stopped crying and said, "BOOK!!!"

We love living so close to the park and the zoo. It's been too warm for the animals lately. They have stayed inside to keep cool, so Suz and I have opted for the park on several occasions. Matt joined us on the 4th of July and Suz braved the slide and the jungle gym. The heart park remains her favorite though. Apparently there is just something about drumming on a big red heart that makes her heart happy!

You know it's summer when...

You can eat an entire peach and LOVE the juice rolling down your chin-
The hose is an awesome toy-
Getting ready for a day at the pool is just as much fun as swimming!
Splashing and swimming at the local pool are becoming favorite ways to spend these hot summer afternoons. Thankfully, Susannah loves sunscreen, her hat and cooling off in the shade, too!

Back in Action

This time I am really going to try to make this blog thing happen. I've definitely been posting pics to our share site, but I know lots of people don't want to see every single picture we take. So here are few pics of Susannah's life lately.

Eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after the 1 year check-up.

Riding my new car in the kitchen.

Finally wearing my Montana "Duck Duck Moose" shirt from Daddy. He brought it home after his trip last summer!
Reading lots and lots of books!

Buh, Buh, Buh

If you can have a baby "buh-worm," we do. Susannah is using her "B" noises to let us know that she really loves books. "Buh" is her new word, if you can really call it that. She also says "mamamamama" and "dadadadadada," but "buh" is the word of today. In fact, she will grab books from her basket of toys or from the TV stand shelf and drag them to me. She then sits on my lap and waits not-so-patiently for story time. I know these days won't last long, but we both are enjoying the quality time quite a bit.

"I think I see one!!!"

"Reading" and look how big her feet look!

On second thought, maybe she's really saying "Buh-ath!!!"

Could I Really Be a Blogger?

Lately I have had several people tell me that I need to start a blog. Apparently blogging is one of the ways new mothers stay sane and get ideas for how to survive the transition from "the real world" to "the new normal" as we seem to refer to pre- and post-baby time periods.

Each person cites a different reason for the blog creation.
- "It's a great way to post pictures and stories about your children."
- "It's fun to have a record of your journey in motherhood."
- "It's a fantastic way to tell stories and communicate with family and friends in different places."

Confession: we started a family blog before Susannah arrived in late April. However, posting pictures to our sharesite has proved sufficient during the first months. I hope you enjoy the musings you will find here. They may not be profound, but rest assured, they will be true to life and flavored with the perspective of a new mom far from home and in love with the two beautiful people God has given me- Matt and Susannah.
